The 4th Annual Semper Fi Men’s Retreat - November 3-4, 2006
In the past each Men’s Retreat has concluded with an activity for men to share together. In the past we’ve made trips to Cabela’s, gone golfing, went to a Michigan football game, etc. This year we are including a pheasant hunt.

The hunt will take place approximately 4.5 miles north of Cabela’s. We will register men in groups of 5. You must bring your own weapon and ammo. You need to have a current Michigan small game license. Each group of 5 will have a trained dog and a guide. The cost will be $40 per person. The cost is less if you decide to shoot quail or other game birds instead of pheasant. If you want someone to clean your birds, the charge is $2 per bird. Registration and money must be in no later than October 15th.

I must say that I will pass on this one. No sense in someone getting hurt because of my shooting (or lack of) ability. B4T

I too must pass on this one, I own no gun. I will be there for the retreat, though.

Kelly,
Why are you grateful? You don’t believe guns are bad do you? I wish more men would own a gun and be able to handle one. A gun in the hand of a man can bring food to the table and safety to his family. I will always own one and hope one day teach Heather to shoot as well so she too can defend herself and our family. As for the context of this discussion with hunting, I recommend you read the book “Wild at Heart” to fully understand the nature of men in this category. I know for myself I feel closer to God when I am in the woods taken in his creation and harvesting an animal he provided for me. What an honor for me that is and will be for me to pass on to my kids.
P.S. Russ I recommend for you a great single shot 12gauge, inexpensive as I know you don’t hunt much and won’t use it all the time. Yet still provides an excellent shot and the protection factor is still the same. I am really pumped you are going this is going to be awesome bro, I hope you get a big bird and we can take it home and have a nice dinner. See Ya Soon!

Patriot,
I understand the nature of men in this category. Chris has read this book and has shared alot of the info. I’ve come along way. The intention was not to offend anyone, and I would assume that the ones for which my comment was directed, understand that. If not, I apoligize.

She was saying that I am VERY accident prone, and should never be allowed around guns, trucks, explosives, jet-skis, napalm, grenades, gasoline, kerosene, chemicals of any kind, mentos and diet coke, helium, hydrogen, diapers, rubber bands, monkeys, chains, rope, fire, welders, saws, hammers, steam rollers and the like.

Kelly,
You don’t need to apologize for anything. I wasn’t offended, I just was wondering if that was the case. I think I must have misunderstood you when I read your comment. It is hard to pick up on inflection when you are reading and not able to hear the person talking. Now that I understand, I concur….

actually, we never intended to allow sammy to ever have a gun….we want to use him to run ahead of us and scare up the birds…the man is built like a springer spaniel….

poor sammy, see sammy, can sammy run, watch sammy, run sammy run

You know, at the risk of offending the Patriot here, I personally have no use for a gun. I highly respect any person who wishes to hunt for their own food and to have something in case they need to defend themselves. But as an American I do have the right to NOT bear arms if I so choose and appreciate it when my rights are not criticized because of personal Godly convictions about using a firearm as a weapon. I want all to enjoy the hunt and to have great success in it, but I will pass. B4T

Pudge,
You haven’t offended me in the least. I’m secure enough in who I am. Nobody is saying you are or anybody else is less of a man for it either for not hunting. Has anybody critisized you for your convictions? I know I haven’t. I just know what makes me feel like a man….ME…and hunting is one of them. I….ME…feel closer to God in the woods taking in his creation and harvesting an animal he provided for me. Now you and anybody else need to do what makes you feel like a man. If that is golfing and hanging out with the guys then so be it. When this all started I only wanted to pose a question to a lady in the room as to if she thought guns were inherently evil or bad. She set me straight on my misunderstanding and all is well. And if I offended you DEP….PUT A HELMET ON!!!….LOL
The Pudgeman // September 18, 2006 at 1:09 pm
Patriot, I am not offended in the least bit by what you have said here. There seems to be this thought that if a person could care less about there second ammendment rights then they are not a patriotic American! I have had numerous discussions with you personally about this issue and we have indeed agreed to dissagree! I just wanted to stress a point (not directed at you) that the non gun toting Americans have that right as well. It is indeed tiring to hear (not from you but others) how important it is to protect our second ammendment rights when I see our first ammendment rights being flushed down the toilet. So Mr. Patriot let me make it clear to such a sensative man as yourself that I wasn’t referring specifically to you in my comment, I was making a general statement. So, without a helmet on my end, I must advise you to seek some head protection for you own and take a stress pill or something! B4T

I don’t like guns and will never allow one in the house as long as the kids are home! But I must say that I am a little gun shy because of the fact that I have been shot by one. Yep, I am a poster child for why you don’t keep loaded guns in your closet. My 7yr old brother found it one day, cocked it twice, aimed for my head (all thinking it was a game of course) and shot me in the right wrist. To this day when I see a gun it makes my wrist ache!! Hunting though is another story as long as the gun isn’t in my house, I’m good.
mudpuppy // September 18, 2006 at 3:46 pm
I actually heard about your gun story last night Melissa. That is some scary stuff!!
ps. It wasn’t the guns’ fault, just like when my mom ran over my foot with the car, it wasn’t the cars’ fault. (love you mom! :))
Kodiak // September 21, 2006 at 8:21 pm
I know all about guns. I have been shot at by an M16 and felt the shot whiz past my right ear, I have felt the percussion of a tank blast, which btw knocked me flat on my back, I was attempting to assault the tank. I still have no problems with guns. It’s people I don’t trust. I sold my handgun back in 1980, but I go black powder hunting when I get the oportunity. I have a trigger lock on my black powder gun and keep it in a secure location. I do not keep it loaded, even with the trigger lock on it.
