Do you really hunger and thirst for what is good? How do you know? Here are some questions to help you know whether or not you are hungry:
Are you dissatisfied with yourself?
Do the pursuits of the world satisfy you?
Do you have a great yearning for the Word of God?
Do you value what God values?
Meet The Master
I had walked life’s way with an easy tread, Had followed where comforts and pleasures led, Until one day in a quiet place, I met the Master face to face.
With station and rank and wealth for my goal, Much thought for my body, but none for my soul, I entered to win in life’s big race, When I met the Master face to face.
I built my castles and reared them high, With their towers had pierced the blue of the sky, I had sword to rule with an iron mace, When I met the Master face to face.
I met Him and knew Him and blushed to see, That His eyes full of sorrow were fixed on me. I faltered and fell at His feet that day, While my castles melted and vanished away.
And I cried aloud, ‘Oh make me meet, To follow the steps of Thy wounded feet. My thought is now for the souls of men, I have lost my life to find it again. Ere since one day in a quiet place, I met the Master face to face.

what a wonderfully insightful poem. Did you write it?
What is the “right” answer to the first question?
I guess my answer would be yes and no. I am satisfied with myself in my lot in life, I have a wonderful family (both church and biological), a great job, house, cars, goods, etc. I am not satisfied with my level of development of both my mind and soul. It is too easy for me to sleep an extra 20 minutes instead of spend time in the word, to not commit to things, to take the temptation to a million different sins. So in that respect, I am not satisfied with myself.

No, I didn’t write the poem….the author is unknown…
Good question…..here’s what I think….
Thomas Watson said, “He has most need of righteousness that least wants it.”
Do you ever find yourself saying, “Oh, wretched man that I am! Who shall deliver me from this body of death?” Ro. 7:24 Or are you self-righteous, thinking everyone else is wrong and you are right?
If you are in any sense satisfied with yourself you need to question whether you really hunger after righteousness. The pain of constantly falling short of God’s standards characterize those who hunger after righteousness. Believers need to hunger for righteousness as Esau was when he returned from a hunting trip and was starving for food. Gen. 25:32
It is when we sense our longing for what is good and right…that God promises us He will fill us with His goodness. Just like our physical hungering and thirsting in this world….we continue in cycles of hungering and filling. It will be like this as long as we live in this world.
