There was a great article on Jon Kitna and the Detroit Lions in Sunday’s Detroit Free Press.  Check it out.

What is Love?

September 24, 2007 · No Comments

Last night our small group watched Rob Bell’s Nooma called Flame….yes, it was hot!  In the video he talks about various aspects of love and how inadequate is our English word love; from I love moosetracks ice cream (and I do!) to I love my wife (and I do!)

At the end of the video we discovered that the Greek word for love, agape, is the highest form of love; but, we needed to further define it.  Here is what we collectively came up with for a definition of agape love:

“A willful committed decision to enter into a merciful, unselfish, sacrificial and deliberate covenant to the unconditional, unmerited benevolence of another.”

I thought the group did a good job!

This song, by Lifehouse, has really inspired me.  Here are the words to Everything.  Check it out on itunes….it’s definitely worth it….be blessed:

Lifehouse - Everything

Find Me Here
Speak To Me
I want to feel you
I need to hear you
You are the light
That’s leading me
To the place where I find peace again.

You are the strength, that keeps me walking.
You are the hope, that keeps me trusting.
You are the light to my soul.
You are my purpose…you’re everything.

How can I stand here with you and not be moved by you?
Would you tell me how could it be any better than this?

You calm the storms, and you give me rest.
You hold me in your hands, you won’t let me fall.
You steal my heart, and you take my breath away.
Would you take me in? Take me deeper now?

How can I stand here with you and not be moved by you?
Would you tell me how could it be any better than this?
And how can I stand here with you and not be moved by you?
Would you tell me how could it be any better than this?

Cause you’re all I want, You’re all I need
You’re everything,everything
You’re all I want your all I need
You’re everything, everything.
You’re all I want you’re all I need.
You’re everything, everything
You’re all I want you’re all I need, you’re everything, everything.

And How can I stand here with you and not be moved by you?
Would you tell me how could it be any better than this?
How can I stand here with you and not be moved by you?
Would you tell me how could it be any better than this?

How can I stand here with you and not be moved by you?
Would you tell me how could it be any better than this?

Would you tell me how could it be any better than this?

My friend of 17+ years brought over her grandchildren and we all had some ice cream at my favorite hang out, Family Frosty.  They talked me into doing a silly picture which you see here.  My buds are Haley, Ethan, and Taylor, from left to right.  They are great kids!  What summer fun….having ice cream with your pals!

The Heart of the Gospel

September 14, 2007 · No Comments

”Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?” Jesus replied: ” ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’  This is the first and greatest commandment.  And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’  All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.”

“A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another.  By this all men will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.”

“This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers.  If anyone has material possessions and sees his brother in need but has no pity on him, how can the love of God be in him?  Dear children, let us not love with words or tongue but with actions and in truth.”

Jesus sure makes that which is most important so very simple….Love God & Love People…one could even say, love God by loving people.

There are literally millions of people that God loves who need our help.  They just want we you and I take for granted….to drink clean water that will not make them sick and die.

Won’t you join me in rejecting the material trappings of Christmas this year and take that money and help our fellow human live?  Wouldn’t that be more the true spirit of Christmas?  If you would like to help drill a water well for an orphanage in Eldoret, Kenya Africa, write me at preacherhawkins@yahoo.com

When we raise more than $7,000 for the project in Eldoret, we will drill other water wells in places like Rwanda and other countries in Africa.

Why not have a Radical Christmas this year?
