Hotel Rwanda

After watching the movie Hotel Rwanda last night, my heart is still heavy.  This is a must see.  I am absolutely ashamed of myself for not being aware of the genocide that was taking place in Rwanda.  I was doing nothing.  Our church was doing nothing.  Innocent women, men, children were being slaughtered.  Their only offense was they were Tutsi in stead of Hutu.  I swear I could not tell one from the other if you paid me a million dollars.  The situations was eerily similar to what is happening in Kenya between the Kalejin and the Kikuyu people.

I was horrified, again, by the absolute hatred people can have for their fellow person.  The atrocities done by one human being to another.  How can this happen?  This first thing that is needed is an identifier; such as a certain tribe, nation, religion, color, political party, etc.   This will polarize people to different sides.  Then bring on an offense of some kind between the two.  Leaders rise up and take the charge spewing hateful, degrading, divisive speech toward the other.  This hateful snowball grows as it continues rolling downhill.

What is the answer to this universal human defect?  There is no tribe, nation, race, religion or people that is not guilty.  How do we change? This has been repeated over and over again throughout the history of time.  How do we really change?  What will break us free from this cycle of hate?  What can I do?

Just when everyone was screaming “the sky is falling” because of global warming….we hear another voice.   This is a good read:

10 Steps to Overcoming Worry

March 27, 2008 · No Comments

1.  Say to yourself, “I can overcome any habit, even worry, with God’s help.

2.  Worry is the opposite of faith.  Replace worry with faith in God.

3.  Every morning speak this faith phrase out loud, “I believe” 3 times.

4.  Pray the following: “I place this day, my life, my loved ones, my work in your hands Lord.  There is no harm in your hands, only good.  Whatever happens, whatever results, I am in your hands, it is your will and it is good.”

5.  Commit to speaking positively instead of negatively.

6.  Do not participate in worry conversation.  Inject faith and hope into such conversations.  Bring light to a dark place.

7.  Memorize bible verses that speak of faith, hope, love, happiness, glory, radiance.

8.  Cultivate friendships with hopeful people.  Surround yourself with friends who think positive, faith-producing thoughts.

9.  Actively help other people cure their own worry habit.  In helping others you will grow in power over worry yourself.

1o.  Everyday, visualize yourself walking with Jesus by your side.  When tempted to worry remember His promise to be with you always!

(adapted from Norman Vincent Peale’s “The Power of Positive Thinking”)

Why do these politicians chose to torture their wives by dragging them out in public during their own personal failings?  Do these women really stand by their man?  Is it all just a PR move?  How do these women really feel?  Why do they participate in this charade?

Easter Celebration

March 23, 2008 · 6 Comments

What can I say but….WOW!  Today’s celebration for Easter was absolutely inspiring.  All the different people that worked so hard to bring glory to God’s Son this morning was amazing.   I love to see people who love God….serve Him.  It touches my heart deeply.  With well over 300 people in attendance, we all worshipped as one person….as a community.  God’s Spirit was present and powerful.  I am certain that lives were changed.  I hope that you had a close communion with the Father today.

Christ has risen!

Christ has risen INDEED!

What kind of effect would this pastor have on the world view of a young man after 20 years of this type of preaching?
